I often feel scared about doing things that I might succeed in. I know that sounds strange, but it’s something that I have struggled with my entire life. I would rather fall from the 3rd story then the top floor and I hold myself back because of it. As our missionaries sang this Sunday, I felt transformed in the fact that I had everything inside of me, that I need to do the work that GOD wants me to do. It wasn’t about climbing to top of the building as I had thought my whole life; it was merely about using all the tools that were inside me already to bring Glory to HIM. We might not be called to go across the ocean like the Newby’s, but we are all called to do something. Next time, you hear that voice inside saying, “maybe I should…” listen to your call and do what it says. Even if it’s just to go across the street, we are all in the exact place we are supposed to be, at the exact time to show GOD’s love and light to whomever he puts right in front of us. It’s easy to listen to the doubt, but know that your GOD has given you everything you need to succeed for HIS purpose, HIS Glory.
“If I understood GOD, I would not need HIM.” Don Newby, explained this as he spoke about worshiping GOD. Don explained that even on the top of this amazing hill looking out on a spectacular sight of GOD’s creation, he was still in wonder at that fact that he could never understand GOD’s mystery but in this moment, he could only praise GOD. He was humbled to his core by the creator, even in the midst of remarkable earthly beauty. He went on to explain that it is, “what my eyes cannot see that my hope lies in.” His experience was not about the scenery, but the worship with the LORD it brought him to. It is such a testimony and lesson to all of us to be faithful no matter where you are or where you have been. You cannot make God what you want HIM to be, you must look at HIM in different perspective. We must submit to the fact that if there was nothing else in this life, GOD would be more than enough. To have this much faith seems almost impossible, but I assure you that through GOD anything is possible. (Mark 9:23) If we understood God, we would not need HIM every minute of every day. Our hope must lie in what we cannot see, not the amazing creation before us, but the amazing mystery of GOD himself.
Surrender to GOD is different than commitment to GOD. You can commit to anything, paying bills, taking care of your home, loving your spouse, but to surrender is far deeper a concept. In surrendering you are giving up and relinquishing your power. In commitment, your vow stands on obligation and duty rather than fully renouncing and submitting yourself. In Romans 12:1 it says if we want to worship, we must surrender. As the Newby’s sang, the lyrics almost jumped off the projector screen saying, “bring me to my knees and point me to your son.” They went on to sing, “hold on in strife, hold on to eternal life.” In our day to day struggle we must grasp the fact that if we hold on to Jesus we are holding on to eternal life itself. This is where we must surrender fully and not just commit. This is where we transfer our whole being to HIS SON and hold on tight to him through all earthly conflicts. It is only in this place that you will see the vision of what GOD is calling you to do.
It is my prayer for us, that we are able to look inside of ourselves and see that GOD has given us all the tools we need to accomplish HIS purpose. As we start to listen more intently to the Holy Spirit, let our faith be changed by the fact that if there was nothing else GOD would be more than enough. As we surrender ourselves to HIM, let us hold on to Jesus with such force that we are forever transformed by what we cannot see. Just as the Newby’s showed us, let our own calling further HIS Glory and HIS purpose in all we do.
